5 SQUARE, on the southern outskirts of Milan, is a social housing programme carried out by Studio Barreca & La Varra Architects and aiming to regenerate 5 abandoned buildings. The large legacy balconies have been converted into loggias, so solar shading was needed to control the light and thermal comfort of the terraces, while offering attractive façades.
The architect contacted blinds manufacturer Resstende Srl to search together for the best solution combining comfort and design.
Resstende therefore offered blinds with Mermet’s Satiné 5500 fabric for its outstanding solar shading properties:
- 96% of solar energy reflected for optimum heat protection
- 93% of light rays filtered, providing very good glare control thanks to the diagonal satin weave
- Maximum natural light
- View-through maintained thanks to the fabric’s unparalleled transparency.
- The chosen colour matches the façade and blends in perfectly with the building.
The 360 external blinds have been designed to brighten façades by making them look “alive": moving from one blind tilted outwards to another tilted inwards to create a little butterfly effect," explains architect Gianandrea Barreca.
Mermet fabrics have now become THE ideal solution, guaranteeing excellent thermal performance combined with optimum visual comfort, while at the same time giving the façades of buildings a modern look.
