MERMET FABRICS

This is the percentage of solar energy which actually penetrates into a room through the combination of the blind and the glazing. A low value (<0,15) means good thermal performance. It is also called gtot.
This is the proportion of solar radiation transmitted through the fabric.
This is the proportion of solar radiation reflected by the fabric. A high percentage means the fabric performs well at reflecting solar energy.
This is the proportion of solar radiation absorbed by the fabric. A low percentage means the fabric absorbs little solar energy.
This is the total percentage of visible light transmitted through the fabric.
Emissivity is a material’s capacity to re-emit received energy through conduction (heat/cold). A fabric with low emissivity restrains the impact of inward radiation, minimizing the sensation of cold in winter and heat in summer. By trapping emitted energy, it helps to retain indoor warmth in winter and keeps excessive heat out in summer, subsequently reducing the need for heating or air conditioning and, consequently, overall energy consumption.
The standard ISO 354:2003 is a measurement method for determining the sound absorption coefficient in a reverberation room. The result depends on the configuration in which the measured material is placed (with or without plenum).
The standard ISO 10534-2:2023 is a measurement method using an impedance tube to determine the sound absorption coefficient at normal incidence. This method gives an idea of the sound absorption potential of the material.
Thermal and optical values, as defined in the European standard EN 14501:2021 (Blinds and Shutters, Thermal and Visual Comfort, Performance Characteristics and Classification), are used to measure the performance of a fabric’s solar shading properties. The standard is based on a number of criteria and establishes various comfort classifications.
– For thermal comfort: the total solar energy transmittance g-tot.
– For visual comfort: glare control, visual contact with the outside, use of daylight, privacy at night, darkening.
There are 5 performance classes: 0 very little effect - 1 little effect - 2 moderate effect - 3 good effect - 4 very good effect.

ADVICE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

To facilitate the handling of large widths of fabric and to avoid marks on the fabric, Mermet recommends that the panel(s) be rolled on a tube at each stage of the assembly process.
For fabrics with a white acrylic coating on one side, it is recommended that they are handled on a clean, dry and dust-free surface.
As with all metallised fabrics, cotton gloves should be worn during assembly to prevent fingerprints on the metal side.
The fabric should always be kept in its original outer packaging (plastic film, cardboard tube) during storage and/or handling. It is better to place the rolls of fabric in individual cardboard tubes.
The rolls should be stored horizontally, not stacked, in a place where the temperature and humidity are as constant as possible. Prolonged storage at high temperatures (> 45°C) may cause fading of the colours.
Use a transportation aid when moving rolls. Do not lift rolls by the ends to avoid creasing and bending the fabric. The fabric should never be folded. For long term storage it is strongly recommended that the rolls are not stacked.
The following care instructions apply to all of our fabrics:
- Handle the fabric with care: clean and dry hands, use of gloves recommended.
- Do not scrub.
- Do not use solvents or abrasive substances that may damage the fabric coating.
- Therefore, when cleaning windows, etc., the blind must be raised in order to avoid any direct or indirect spraying or splashing of chemicals onto the fabric.
Most solar shading fabrics in the Mermet collection are covered by a five-year guarantee. This guarantee is valid only under normal conditions of use and maintenance of the fabrics, as described in the technical specifications and in accordance with Mermet’s maintenance recommendations in the catalogue. For full terms, see our General Conditions of Sale.
